Suffrage
- Suffrage is the right to vote in political elections. This is important because women sought the right to vote and WW1 in some ways helped to give women a voice.

What place did women and minorities have in the war?
- Women had an increasingly important role in the labour market.
- They worked in munitions factories as well as in different sectors of society.
- Prime Minister Borden used suffrage to guarantee winning the election. At this time many women supported supporting those fighting on the front while there was also increasing resistance to issues such as conscription.
- Women did not fight in the front-lines, but many helped in other ways by travelling as nurses and supporting in other ways.
- Minorities were often rejected due to racism, yet many made an effort to volunteer anyway.
- Even they faced terrible racism at home, groups such as the Harlem Hellfighters, Indigenous Canadian and American soldiers, and Australian Aborigines were often great fighters.
- Unfortunately they were not treated with the respect they deserved when they returned to their home countries.
- Russia left the war in 1917 because of revolution. The population was fed-up with the fighting and it sparked the Socialist Revolution. The new leaders of what would become Communist Russia made peace with Germany.
- Even though Russia left, the Allies were becoming stronger while Germany and its Alliance were becoming weaker.
- The Germans made one last push and almost made it to Paris again. After this the Allies did the hundred days campaign. pushing the Germans back until they collapsed.
- The war ended at 11 am, November 11th 1918 - This is Remembrance Day.
- In the Versailles Peace Treaty, they had to sign the War Guilt Clause and agree to pay back everything.
- Many say that the way the Allies put everything on Germany set the stage for WW2.

Women in WW1
This was the video we saw in class about the importance of women in WW1. With many men on the front, women had an increasingly important role in the workforce. This did not mean equality for women, but through the War many women were able to find a voice with suffrage in Federal elections.
Aboriginees in WW1
This video highlights some of the difficulties which Aborigines had to go and fight in the war. Many indigenous peoples and peoples of other minorities faced problems when they tried to fight in the war. Unfortunately many of the people who fought hard during the war were not appreciated after the war either.
Harlem Hellfighters
The regiment of black soldiers who were put on the front lines with the French soldiers received equal treatment from the French, unlike their American counterparts who did not treat them with the same respect.
